Historical Timeline
Year 1896 - Founding of Montriond and foundational merger
In the autumn of 1896, seven young students from the city of Lausanne, led by Maurice Rameuz and Pierre Bise, gathered in the Montriond neighborhood to found the 'Montriond Football Club'. Inspired by the presence of Anglo-Saxon colleges and the rebirth of the Olympic Games under the impetus of Baron Pierre de Coubertin (who would later establish the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne), the founders adopted the blue and white colors of the communal coat of arms of Lausanne. In 1920, the institution absorbed the athletics and gymnastics sections of the Club Athlétique de Lausanne, formally renaming itself Football Club Lausanne-Sport (LS) to consolidate its position as the great multi-sport club of the canton of Vaud.
Year 1932-1936 - First league title and the golden interwar era
In the 1931/32 season, FC Lausanne-Sport secured its first National A League championship by winning the final national mini-league against FC Zürich and Grasshopper Club. Three years later, in 1935, they added their first Swiss Cup after a 10-0 thrashing of FC Nordstern Basel in the most lopsided final in the tournament's history, completing their second league championship in 1935/36 led by the legendary internationals Willy Jäggi and Robert Weiler.
Year 1964-1965 - League and Cup champion with Karl Rappan and the 'Cup of Kings'
Under the technical direction of the prestigious strategist Karl Rappan, Lausanne-Sport experienced its decade of greatest sporting splendor at the historic Stade Olympique de la Pontaise. In 1964, they were crowned Swiss Cup champions, defeating FC La Chaux-de-Fonds 2-0, and in the 1964/65 season, they won their seventh National A League title. Supported by legends such as captain Richard Dürr and Dutch striker Pierre Kerkhoffs (top scorer of the competition with 19 goals), the Vaudois team reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
Year 1998-1999 - Consecutive Swiss Cup double with Schürmann
At the end of the 20th century, FC Lausanne-Sport experienced its last great era of sporting glory under the technical direction of Pierre-André Schürmann. The club won two consecutive Swiss Cup titles: in 1998, they won on penalties against FC St. Gallen after a 2-2 draw in Bern, and in 1999, they revalidated the crown by defeating the powerful Grasshopper Club 2-0 with goals from Stefan Rehn and Leonard Thurre, propelling the club to memorable continental ties in the UEFA Cup against Celta de Vigo and Ajax.
Year 2020 - Inauguration of the Stade de la Tuilière and new institutional era
On November 29, 2020, FC Lausanne-Sport played its first official match at the brand new Stade de la Tuilière, a modern football-specific venue with a capacity for over 12,500 spectators that replaced the legendary but obsolete Pontaise. With the international corporate backing of the INEOS group, the institution stabilized its financial structure, inaugurated a modern sports city, and guaranteed its competitive permanence in the elite of Swiss football.
