Historical Timeline
Year - 1904: Official foundation and the birth of the Yorkshire pioneer
The club was officially founded on 19 June 1904 following a meeting of directors and football businessmen in the town of Kingston upon Hull (commonly known as Hull), situated in the East Riding of Yorkshire (in the north of England, at the mouth and estuary of the River Humber, surrounded by the countryside and cliffs of the North Sea). It was founded with the firm intention of establishing a professional association football club in a district traditionally dominated by rugby league. Under the leadership of manager James Ramster and directors John F. Cooper and William Jackson, the team adopted black and amber as their colours and played their first friendly matches at The Boulevard to great public anticipation.
Year - 1905–1946: Professional debut and the opening of Boothferry Park
After successfully gaining admission to the Second Division of the Football League in 1905, the club began playing its home matches at the Anlaby Road ground. Having weathered the turmoil of the world wars, in 1946 the board of directors took the momentous decision to open Boothferry Park, situated in a central location. Boothferry Park quickly became an unmistakable stronghold and a venue deeply rooted in the local community, recording an all-time attendance record of 55,019 spectators for a 1949 FA Cup match against the illustrious Manchester United.
Year - 2008: The historic and first promotion to the Premier League in 104 years
On 24 May 2008, Hull City wrote the most successful chapter in its sporting history of the 21st century. Led by manager Phil Brown, the ‘Tigers’ reached the promotion play-off final at Wembley, where they faced Bristol City. In a fiercely contested match, Hull won 1–0 thanks to a superb volley from striker and club icon, Dean Windass, securing the club’s first promotion to the top flight of English football in its 104-year history and sparking mass celebrations across the Humber region.
Year - 2014: FA Cup runners-up and historic European qualification
Under Steve Bruce’s experienced tactical leadership, Hull City enjoyed one of the most successful seasons of their modern era during the 2013–14 campaign. The team enjoyed a brilliant cup run that saw them reach the FA Cup final for the first time in their history, losing 3–2 in extra time to Arsenal after having led 2–0, but doing so with dignity. This cup run saw them qualify for official European competition for the first time, entering the UEFA Europa League the following season.
