Historical Timeline
Year - 1866 (Foundation and Origin of Colours): Formally founded on 19 October 1866 by members of the Chesterfield Cricket Club, with the aim of organising association football matches to enable players to keep fit during the winter. The club adopted blue and white as its colours from the 1870–71 season onwards, originally registering a kit of ‘blue shirts and caps with white trousers’, a colour combination that became its signature identity.

Year - 1891 (The Chesterfield Town and Saltergate era): In 1891, having established itself at the historic Saltergate ground (originally opened in 1871 and formally known as the Recreation Ground), the club turned professional and changed its name to Chesterfield Town F.C. to reflect its status as a town club, which enabled it to join the Football League in 1899.

Year - 1919 (Re-establishment of the Modern Club): Following the suspension of football caused by the First World War and severe financial difficulties, Chesterfield Town F.C. was wound up in 1915. On 24 April 1919, with the backing of the local council and Derbyshire business community, the club was formally re-established under its traditional name, Chesterfield F.C., and resumed its professional activities.

Year - 1997 (FA Cup semi-final): During the 1996–97 season, the team achieved its greatest sporting milestone by reaching the FA Cup semi-finals whilst playing in the third tier (Division Two). Under the management of John Duncan, they drew a legendary 3–3 match against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford before going on to lose the subsequent play-off match.
