Historical Timeline
Year - 1884 (Foundation and Origin of the Name): Founded in 1884 in Birkenhead, Wirral, under the name Belmont Football Club, by a group of young members of a Methodist chapel on Whitfield Street. It arose from the merger of the football teams of the Belmont and Lyndhurst Wanderers cricket clubs, with the aim of providing a winter activity. The first chairman, James Hannay McGaul, paid for the balls and the original goalposts. On 16 September 1885, the club changed its name to Tranmere Rovers F.C. in honour of the residential district of Tranmere in Birkenhead.

Year - 1921 (Founding Members of the Third Division North): After establishing its home ground by moving to Prenton Park in 1912, the club was accepted in 1921 as one of the founding members of the newly created Third Division North of the Football League, thereby formally joining the English professional leagues.

Year - 1962 (The Adoption of the White Kit and Identity): In 1962, manager Dave Russell decided to replace the club’s traditional blue shirt with an all-white kit featuring blue shorts (inspired by Real Madrid’s style). Russell’s aim was to create a distinctive visual identity to set the club apart from its giant Merseyside neighbours (Liverpool and Everton), which gave rise to its historic nickname, ‘The Super White Army’.

Year - 1990 (The Silver Age and the Cup Semi-Final): Under the management of John King, the club enjoyed its golden age in the late 1980s and early 1990s. As well as being promoted from the fourth to the second tier of English football, the team reached three consecutive Leyland DAF Cup finals at Wembley and reached the semi-finals of the League Cup in 1994, coming within a whisker of promotion to the Premier League.
