Historical Timeline
Year - 1886 (Foundation and Origins of Colours): Formally founded on 20 May 1886 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, following a constituent meeting at the Turf Hotel on Claremont Hill. The club was formed following the dissolution of the local teams Shropshire Wanderers and Castle Blues (the latter notorious for its excessively violent style of play), with the aim of channelling local support under a disciplined structure that would represent the town. The new club chose blue and yellow (amber) as its colours, a colour combination directly inspired by the coat of arms of Roger de Montgomery, the first Earl of Shrewsbury.

Year - 1910 (Establishment at Gay Meadow): After moving between various venues in its early years (such as Monkmoor Racecourse), the club moved in 1910 to the iconic Gay Meadow stadium, picturesquely situated on the banks of the River Severn. At this ground, the team cemented its local identity and remained there for 97 consecutive years before moving to New Meadow in 2007.

Year - 1950 (Admission to the Football League): After winning numerous titles in the Birmingham & District League and the Southern League, the club was admitted to the national Football League system in 1950, beginning its professional career in the newly formed Third Division South.

Year - 1978 (The Golden Age and the Blue and Amber Stripes): From the 1978–79 season onwards, the club introduced its iconic blue and amber vertical-striped kit. Coinciding with the introduction of this kit, the team enjoyed its most successful spell under the management of Alan Durban and, later, Graham Turner, winning the Third Division title and competing for a full decade in the EFL Championship (second tier).
