Historical Timeline
Year - 1895 (Founded as Pine Villa F.C.): Founded in July 1895 in the town of Oldham, Lancashire, under the original name of Pine Villa F.C. The initiative was spearheaded by John Garland, proprietor of the Featherstall and Junction Hotel, together with a group of friends, with the aim of forming a sports team for the area’s burgeoning working-class population. The club’s name paid tribute to the local textile mill, Pine Cotton Mill, in the shadow of which they played their first matches.

Year - 1899 (Transition to Oldham Athletic and Adoption of Colours): In 1899, following the dissolution of the local professional club Oldham County F.C., the board of Pine Villa F.C. decided to rent the Boundary Park ground (then known as the Athletic Grounds). To reflect its new status as the town’s leading club, the club was renamed Oldham Athletic A.F.C. They also replaced their original red-and-white striped shirts with the blue-and-white kit that defined their classic identity and gave rise to the nickname ‘The Latics’ (a colloquial corruption of ‘Athletic’).

Year - 1907 (Admission to the Football League): After competing in the Manchester League and the Lancashire Combination, the club was formally admitted to the Football League in 1907. In just three seasons, by 1910, they had secured promotion to the First Division, and in the 1914–15 season they achieved their best-ever performance by finishing second in the national league.

Year - 1992 (Founding Members of the Premier League): Under the management of Joe Royle, the club enjoyed a second golden age in the late 1980s and early 1990s. After reaching the League Cup final in 1990 and gaining promotion to the First Division in 1991, the team became one of the founding members of the newly formed Premier League in 1992, earning a national reputation for being an extremely difficult side to beat at their home ground, Boundary Park.
