Historical Timeline
Year - 1908 (Original Founding and Origin of Colours): The original club was founded in 1908 in the coastal town of Fleetwood, Lancashire, under the name Fleetwood F.C. Its creation was driven by a group of local enthusiasts and traders with the aim of organising a team to represent the fishing port. They adopted the town’s name (‘Fleetwood’) and wore red shirts with white sleeves, colours inspired by the town’s coat of arms and the bustling harbour trade. This strong link to the port’s activities gave rise to their famous nickname, ‘The Cod Army’ or ‘The Fishermen’.

Year - 1977 (First Re-founding and Highbury): Following the dissolution of the original club in 1928 due to insolvency, and after several failed attempts to revive the club’s sporting activities at Highbury Stadium (opened in 1939), the club was formally re-founded in 1977 under the name Fleetwood Town F.C., managing to establish itself firmly in the regional leagues of north-west England.

Year - 1997 (Second Modern Re-founding): In 1996, the club went into administration once again due to a severe regional economic crisis. In 1997, a committee of supporters and businesspeople from Lancashire reorganised the team under the initial name of Fleetwood Wanderers, formally reinstating the classic name of Fleetwood Town F.C. in 2002 to keep the town’s footballing heritage alive.

Year - 2012 (Promotion to the Football League): With the financial backing of local businessman Andy Pilley from 2004 onwards, the club enjoyed a run of consecutive promotions. In the 2011–12 season, under the management of Micky Mellon, the team were crowned Conference Premier champions, securing direct promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history by joining EFL League Two.
