Historical Timeline
Year - 1888 (Original Founding and Origin of the Name): The original club was founded in 1888 in the town of Chipping Barnet, north of London, and officially adopted the name Barnet F.C. The initiative came from former pupils of Cowley College (who had previously formed Woodville F.C. in 1882) with the aim of organising formal association football matches in the area. They adopted the name of the village (‘Barnet’) to identify with the local residents, and their first purple and black kits reflected the school’s influence at the time.

Year - 1912 (Sports Merger and Colour Scheme): Following the bankruptcy and dissolution of the original club in 1902 due to debts and disciplinary sanctions from the governing body, Barnet Alston F.C. (originally founded in 1901 by managers and workers at the Dental Manufacturing Company’s Alston Works factory) became the main local representative. In 1912, it merged with Barnet Avenue F.C. to form Barnet & Alston F.C. This merger definitively established the ‘old gold’ (amber) and black colours of Alston Works, a design that emulated a beehive and gave rise to the legendary nickname ‘The Bees’.

Year - 1919 (Modern re-founding at Underhill): Following the suspension of competitive activities due to the outbreak of the First World War, the club was formally reorganised in 1919. The reference to ‘Alston’ was removed from the club’s name, and it was definitively established as Barnet Football Club, retaining its permanent home ground at Underhill Stadium, which had opened in 1907.

Year - 1991 (Promotion to the Football League): After dominating English amateur football for decades in the Athenian League, the club took the definitive step towards professionalism by joining the Southern League in 1965. Under manager Barry Fry, the team were crowned champions of the Football Conference in 1991, securing automatic promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history.
