Historical Timeline
Year - 1891 (Original Founding and Origin of the Name): The original club was founded in 1891 in the town of Accrington, Lancashire, under the name Stanley Villa. Its creation was driven by a group of regulars who used to meet at the Stanley Arms Pub, situated on Stanley Street (the direct origin of the name ‘Stanley’). The aim of the club’s foundation was to fill the sporting void and ensure the continuity of association football in the town following the financial collapse and subsequent dissolution of the historic Accrington F.C., which had been a founding member of the Football League in 1888. The new team adopted red and white colours in homage to the classic red shirts of the defunct local club, popularly known as ‘The Owd Reds’.

Year - 1921 (Admission to the Football League): After competing successfully in the Lancashire Combination and establishing Peel Park as its home ground, the club was formally admitted to the Football League in 1921. Accrington Stanley became one of the founding members of the newly created Third Division North, marking the start of a four-decade spell in English professional football.

Year - 1962 (Financial Collapse and Liquidation): Owing to severe, long-standing financial difficulties and the high costs of maintaining and refurbishing Peel Park, the club was forced to withdraw from the Football League midway through the 1961–62 season in March 1962. After unsuccessfully attempting to remain active in regional leagues, the original club went into formal liquidation in 1966.

Year - 1968 (Re-establishment and Return to Professional Football): On 15 October 1968, at a meeting held in the town’s public library, a group of local supporters led by Jimmy Hacking agreed to re-establish the club. The club began competing in the Lancashire Combination and rose through the divisions over the years until it won the National League and officially returned to professional football in EFL League Two in 2006.
