Historical Timeline
Year - 1879 (Foundation and Origin of Colours): Founded in September 1879 on the initiative of Albert Jenkins, a lathe operator at the engineering workshops of the Great Northern Railway (GNR). Jenkins brought together workers and friends to form a football team. After making their debut on 4 October 1879 against the Yorkshire Institute, the team stopped to rest at the Hall Cross monument on South Parade on their way back, where they agreed to name the club Doncaster Rovers F.C. (due to its originally nomadic nature). They initially wore blue and white, before adopting their traditional horizontal red and white stripes (rings) in 1901, which gave rise to their nicknames ‘Donny’ and ‘The Vikings’ (due to the region’s Scandinavian heritage).

Year - 1947 (Record-breaking season in the Third Division North): In the 1946–47 season, under the management of Billy Anderson, the club won the Third Division North title, amassing 72 points. It set records that still stand in the Football League by recording 33 league wins in a single season (including a national record of 18 away wins) and a historic tally of 42 goals scored by striker Clarrie Jordan.

Year - 2003 (The Historic Return with a Golden Goal): After spending five seasons in non-league amateur divisions of the Football Conference, the club returned to professional football on 10 May 2003. In the promotion play-off finalat Stoke’s Britannia Stadium, they defeated Dagenham & Redbridge 3–2 thanks to a goal by Francis Tierney in the 110th minute, marking the first and only time that a Football League promotion has been decided by the ‘Golden Goal’ rule.

Year - 2013 (The Griffin Park Miracle and League One): After being crowned Football League Trophy champions in 2007 by defeating Bristol Rovers in Cardiff, the club achieved its greatest league milestone on 27 April 2013 at Griffin Park against Brentford FC. With the score at 0–0 in the 93rd minute, Brentford missed a decisive penalty that would have secured them direct promotion, hitting the crossbar; in the immediate counter-attack, James Coppinger scored the 1–0 winner that secured the League One title and promotion to the Championship for Doncaster in one of the most dramatic finishes in English football.
