Historical Timeline
Year - 1887 (Foundation and Origins of Colours): Founded on 26 July 1887 at the Stanley Arms Hotel in Blackpool, Lancashire. The initiative arose following a split from St John’s School F.C., where Reverend N.S. Jeffrey, Sam Bancroft, Dick Swarbrick, Dick Worthington and W.J. Brown decided to form a local club representing the whole town. They initially wore blue and white, but in 1923 they adopted their distinctive tangerine-orange shirt and white shorts at the suggestion of manager Albert Hargreaves, seeking an extremely eye-catching and unique design, which cemented their nicknames ‘The Seasiders’ (The Seasiders) and ‘The Tangerines’.

Year - 1953 (The ‘Matthews Final’ and the League Run-up to the Title): The club won the FA Cup on 2 May 1953 following a dramatic 4–3 victory over Bolton Wanderers at Wembley, remembered as the ‘Matthews Final’ due to Stanley Matthews’ outstanding performance, and featuring Stan Mortensen’s only hat-trick in a Wembley final in the 20th century. This glorious period culminated in the 1955–56 season under Joe Smith, with the club finishing as First Division runners-up (their highest-ever league position) and Stanley Matthews being awarded the first ever Ballon d’Or.

Year - 1971 (Anglo-Italian Cup winners): On 12 June 1971, the club won its only official international title by beating Bologna F.C. of Italy 2–1 after extra time in the final played at the Stadio Comunale in Bologna, with goals from Tony Green and Micky Burns, making it the only club from Lancashire to have won this European trophy.

Year - 2010 (Promotion to the Premier League at Wembley): Under the management of Ian Holloway, the club returned to the top flight of English football for the first time since its re-establishment as the Premier League. They secured promotion on 22 May 2010 by beating Cardiff City 3–2 in a thrilling play-off final at Wembley, with goals from Charlie Adam, Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Brett Ormerod.
