Historical Timeline
Year - 1887 (Foundation and Origins of Colours): Founded on 17 September 1887 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, as Barnsley St Peter’s Football Club. The clergyman Tiverton Preedy, curate at St Peter’s Church, spearheaded and funded the club’s formation to provide wholesome activity for the young people of the parish and the local coal miners. They initially wore blue and white stripes, before adopting their traditional kit of red shirts and white shorts in 1901, which gave rise to their nicknames ‘The Reds’ and ‘The Tykes’ (a reference to the Yorkshire dialect).

Year - 1912 (Golden Age and FA Cup Champions): After finishing as FA Cup runners-up in 1910, the club achieved its greatest ever success on 24 April 1912 when it was crowned champions of the tournament. After a 0–0 draw against West Bromwich Albion, the play-off at Bramall Lane was decided in the 120th minute of extra time with a goal from striker Harry Tufnell, sealing a 1–0 victory.

Year - 1997 (Historic Promotion to the Premier League): In the 1996–97 season, under manager Danny Wilson, the team finished second in the First Division, securing automatic promotion to the Premier League for the first time. The achievement was sealed on 26 April 1997 at Oakwell Stadium (opened in 1888) with a 2–0 victory over Bradford City, thanks to goals from Paul Wilkinson and Clint Marcelle.
